Effective woody biomass estimation in poplar short-rotation coppices - Populus nigra × P. maximowiczii

Knowledge of the quantity woody biomass poplar short-rotation coppice (SRC) on agricultural land is a basic tool for management decisions like rotation length, volume production and financial balance sheet economic activities. The expansion SRC requires fast, reliable, easily applicable cheap method estimating yield, but existing methods are based labour-demanding lengthy measurements all shoots per tree. objective this study was to verify novel rapid estimation that uses averaged attributes only few largest as predictor variable in SRC, hybrid clone J-105 (Populus nigra × P. maximowiczii). Using data from 39 sample stumps with 187 total, we modelled shoot function an increasing number interaction different parameters at two plantations. Results showed DBH three stump proved be accurate estimators total individual stump. Comparison estimates stand level real amount indicated differences between 6-14%, depending site.
